CHINA - GET READY TO CROSS THE GREAT WALL

What image comes to mind when you think of today's China?

Skyscrapers? Crowded underground cars? Neon signs lighting up the streets of the big cities day and night?

These typical images represent only a part of China, but there is much more behind this great power, and also a market full of possibilities if you are thinking of developing your brand there.

Here are some interesting facts you may not have known about this fascinating culture that reflect the current importance of having a presence in its digital world.

✶ It is a country of great inventors, they created the compass, gunpowder, silk and paper.

✶ Today, China is at the global forefront in artificial intelligence, space technology and renewable energy. The world's largest solar power plant, "Longyangxia Dam Solar Park" is located in China.

✶ It has 1.4 billion inhabitants, 20% of the world's population, and the largest number of internet users in the world, with more than 900 million people connected.

✶ China is also the world leader in e-commerce with platforms such as Alibaba and JD.com dominating the market, and mobile payment apps with digital wallets such as Alipay and WeChat Pay.

We could name many more, but let's get to the wine, which is what interests us most 🙂

Although wine consumption has declined in recent years, partly caused by the pandemic and its first economic recession, the truth is that the Chinese consumer is becoming more and more knowledgeable about wine and is demanding higher quality wine.

This leads us to question, what means and factors influence the Chinese market in its consumption decisions?

One of the most important is undoubtedly the social networks.

We might think that, given the restrictions on platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter (X) or WhatsApp, Chinese users do not wake up glued to their mobile phones every morning.

Well, nothing could be further from the truth, the Chinese community, as we revealed at the beginning of this article, is the largest mass of online users on the planet.

In China, they have their own social networks, with even more functionalities than "ours".

These are the most important ones, so keep their names in mind:

WeChat, Weibo, Douyin and Xiaohongshu.

According to Kantar Media, they have more than 700 million frequent users.

So if you are distributing your wines in China, you should know that having a presence in their social networks is a must.

Each of them has different audiences, uses, formats and main themes. But all of them are very powerful tools to give visibility to your brand in China.

If you want to know more about these social networks, stay tuned to our upcoming publications where we will share everything you need to know about each of them.
