GODEVAL; MASTERS OF SINGLE VARIETAL WINES, GODELLO LOVERS, AND AUTHORS OF ITS SUCCESS.
Today we introduce you a project of “love at first sight” (or strain in this case).
A “monovarietal” love for a single grape variety.
We are talking about Godeval Winery and the Godello variety. Pioneers in the production of the world's first 100% Godello.
Godeval is a Galician winery founded in 1986, with the aim of recovering the white Godello variety, under the Valdeorras appellation of origin.
Its location is as spectacular as its wines, located in the historic setting of Xagoaza (O Barco), where the medieval monastery of Xagoaza lies, and which they used as a winery until 2009.
Wine speaks in many ways.
One of them is through its place of origin, and Xagoaza has a lot to tell. A place full of history, art, culture, legend, architecture, and even battles.
As the Galicians say, Galicia is “land of meigas (witches)” and of wines.
ITS HISTORY AND UNIQUENESS
Its project was born through an initiative called REVIVAL, created by a regional chief in 1974, for the recovery of the native Godello variety.
A few years later and to carry out this plan, Godeval was founded. They started with 2 hectares of their own vineyards and part of the monastery as a winery.
They currently own 30 hectares of vineyards, which allows them to control all phases of the process and guarantee the quality of the “wine that is made in the vineyard”.
Its vineyards are considered by experts to be the best in the Valdeorras D.O. appellation.
And this D.O. is, in turn, considered as the place where the best quality of this variety is achieved, due to its soil and climate, among other factors.
We could say that it is the home of Godello, where this grape feels comfortable, loved, and supported.
In 2009, they inaugurated a new winery with the most innovative technology, where 150,000 liters of wine are produced annually from their vineyards.
HOW IS GODELLO AND ITS WINES?
Its typical aromas are fruity (peach and apple), floral and herbaceous, with some hints of aniseed and mint.
The Godello variety produces distinguished and aromatic white wines. It is particularly pleasant on the palate, with a perfect balance between sweetness and acidity, as well as mineral notes provided by the slate of its soil.
The Godello variety, in addition to its extraordinary aromatic potential, has a marked lactic character that produces wines with a broad palate and enormous personality.
Godeval has a small portfolio of 4 wines. Simple but exquisite: Godeval, Cepas Vellas, Revival and Godeval 1986.
♥️ GODEVAL
A young and aromatic wine to enjoy at any time.
♥️ CEPAS VELLAS
A wine that evolves in the bottle and improves over time. It is made from grapes selected from the winery's oldest vineyards and vinified for about 5 months in stainless steel tanks on its own lees.
♥️ REVIVAL
A limited series, with grapes from its emblematic “Pancho” vineyard, one of the oldest on the property, and marked by its slate soil and special microclimate.
The Godeval Revival grapes are subjected to a cryomaceration process, which brings out in the wine all the essence and aromatic and taste components of the Godello variety.
♥️ GODEVAL 1986
Made with grapes from the 2017 harvest, well ripened and of excellent quality. Fermented in new 500-liter French oak barrels, subsequently aged on its fine lees for 4 months.
The result: the bottled pleasure of a powerful and well-structured wine.
INTERNATIONAL PRESENCE
Godeval has not only won the hearts of Spaniards. It was the first winery to export Godello wine to the USA and nowadays, they are present in many countries, exporting around 30% of their production.
Their wines have won numerous national and international awards.
Drinking, selling, or visiting Godeval is always a good choice.
Whether for the extraordinary history of its monastery, its surroundings, its landscape, its vineyards, or its unique way of making Godello, Godeval is a success.
